55 Hudson Yards
Occupying 3 floors of a KPF-designed tower in Hudson Yards, the workplace design for Boies Schiller Flexner provided the opportunity to redefine what a corporate law office could be. The project kicked-off with multiple weeks of research at the firm's existing offices, collecting data, holding stakeholder interviews and workshops, understanding the business, and observing how the firm functioned. Rather than a typical law firm plan that often reflects a firm's hierarchy, the BSF offices floorplan was borne from the meticulous research and data collection that sought to understand how the lawyers actually worked. The plan fosters collaboration, enables spontaneous interactions, provides privacy and faciliates interaction accross the ranks - and does so without a single 'corner office.' To reinforce connection in a vertically stratified high-rise, large openings were cut into the floor plates, providing space for a grand stair case and sculpture, as well as shared office amenities like cafe's, lounges, and shared conference rooms.
